The Garey Vikings will head out on the road to face off against the Bassett Olympians at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Garey has six straight wins, Bassett has 13 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
In what's become a running theme this season, Garey gave their fans yet another huge win on Wednesday. They breezed by La Puente at home to the tune of 62-2. With Garey ahead 42-0 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
It was another big night for Aaliyah (AJ) Jones, who scored 14 points along with seven steals. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Kamya Slay was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Bassett had to suffer through a rough 49-13 loss at the hands of Edgewood.
Garey pushed their record up to 16-4 with that win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.4 points per game. As for Bassett, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.
Garey came out on top in a nail-biter against Bassett when the teams last played back in January of 2023, sneaking past 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Garey since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
