The Eastside Lions waltzed into their match Friday with three straight wins but they left with four. They took down Bishop Union 50-35. Given Eastside's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 297th, while Bishop Union is ranked 818th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Eastside's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dominique Burnett, who scored 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayla Correa , who scored 11 points.
Despite the defeat, Bishop Union saw an underclassman step up: Kristin Allen scored 14 points along with six steals. Allen is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Henny Charley , who scored eight points.
Bishop Union struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Eastside is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. As for Bishop Union, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-6.
Eastside is on the road again on Friday and play against South at 5:00 p.m. on January 5th. Bishop Union will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Desert at 6:00 p.m. on January 9th. The timing is sure in Desert's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Bishop Union has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.
