Softball Recap: Gunter Sets Scoring Season-High Against Howe

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Gunter). They blew past the Howe Bulldogs 30-1 on Wednesday. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by six runs or more this season.

Rylee Cassidy was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Skylar Pogue, who scored five runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. What's more, she posted four RBI, the most she's had since back in February of 2024. Ireland Waite was another key player, going 3-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.

Gunter always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .795. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Howe only posted an OBP of .385.

Gunter is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. Howe's loss was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-8.

We've got a battle between Tigers coming up. Gunter's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Blue Ridge's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Howe, they will face off against Bells at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Bells' favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three games.
