Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2023 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Micah Alejado of
Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) is the 2023 MaxPreps Nevada High School Football Player of the Year. The 5-foot-10, 170-pound senior quarterback led the Gaels to a 12-0 record, Class 5A Division I state title and MaxPreps National Championship.
Alejado threw for three touchdowns and ran for another in Bishop Gorman's 56-11 win over Liberty (Henderson) in the state championship game. The program has won 13 state crowns in the past 14 years.

For the season, Alejado threw for 2,714 yards and 35 touchdowns without an interception while completing 77.4 percent of his passes. He added 25 carries for 261 yards and three more scores.
In four games against out-of-state competition, Alejado was at his best. He threw for 1,134 yards and 13 touchdowns to go with 128 yards on the ground, including a season-high 390 yards to go along with three TDs in a 39-35 win over Central (Miami) in September.
Alejado, the MaxPreps National Junior of the Year in 2022 after throwing for 3,575 yards and 54 touchdowns, is regarded as a three-star prospect by
247Sports. He committed to Hawaii over five other offers in April.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team.
