Oglethorpe County extended their losing streak to nine on Friday, dropping them down to 9-12. They took a 9-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Elbert County Blue Devils. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Blue Devils this season, with their most recent defeat being a 12-0 loss on Friday.
As for Elbert County, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-6. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games.
For Elbert County's part, Brody Baker made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 14 over 6.2 innings pitched. Those 14 strikeouts gave Baker a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played.
In other pitching news, Adler Bradford tossed a big game, striking out six batters over 4.1 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2025.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Cheyvis Mclendon, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Jose Rodrigues was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Oglethorpe County is set to take on their familiar foe Banks County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Elbert County will square off against rival Rabun County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
