Given Coahoma County's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 27th, while the Wildcats are ranked 166th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Coahoma County was led to victory by Harlem Bell and Caleb Hearns. Bell scored 18 points along with four steals, while Hearns dropped a double-double on 14 points and 19 rebounds. Hearns is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down 11 or more in the last 11 games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jerasmus Eagins, who scored 12 points along with four steals.
Coahoma County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 22-5 record this season. As for Independence, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-11.
Coahoma County and the Hawks will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. As for Independence, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
