The Hazleton Area Cougars entered their tilt with the Berwick Bulldogs with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. Hazleton Area blew past Berwick 47-23. Given Hazleton Area's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 12th, while Berwick is ranked 368th), the result on Wednesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hazleton Area found their leader in underclassman Kaitlyn Bindas, who scored 15 points. Another player making a difference was Kayla Lagowy, who scored seven points along with four steals.
Hazleton Area pushed their record up to 9-1 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.0 points per game. As for Berwick, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.
Hazleton Area will head out on the road to face off against Pittston at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Pittston is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. As for Berwick, they have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Dallas at 6:30 p.m. on January 5th.
