The Grant Pacers's game last Monday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They took down Monterey Trail 52-37. For Grant, this counts as revenge for the 47-36 defeat Monterey Trail walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2023.
Grant found their leader in underclassman Asia Washington, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 18 rebounds. Washington hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for nine straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jalaysia Clements, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Monterey Trail lost, one person who can't be blamed is Aaliyah Youngblood. Despite the final result, she scored 17 points along with four steals. Youngblood has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Aniyah Whipper was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven rebounds and four blocks.
Grant pushed their record up to 14-3 with that victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.9 points per game. As for Monterey Trail, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season.
Grant will take on Burbank at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Burbank will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 1103rd, while Grant is ranked 98th). As for Monterey Trail, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Laguna Creek at 7:00 p.m.
