The Tamaqua Blue Raiders waltzed into their matchup Wednesday with four straight wins but they left with five. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Nativity BVM 50-9 at home. The result was nothing new for Tamaqua, who have now won four matchups by 21 points or more so far this season.
Tamaqua found their leader in underclassman Lauren Ligenza, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds. Ligenza hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for six straight games. Samantha Plasha was another key contributor, scoring four points along with four steals.
Tamaqua pushed their record up to 8-1 with that win, which was their third straight at home. As for Nativity BVM, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-5.
Tamaqua will finish 2023 at home by hosting Mahanoy Area at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Mahanoy Area will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings (they are ranked 528th, while Tamaqua is ranked 96th). As for Nativity BVM, they will head out on the road to face off against Salem Christian at 6:00 p.m. on January 4, 2024.
