Softball Recap: Lambert Wins Going Away Against Forsyth Central

Lambert won the last time they faced Forsyth Central and things went their way on Thursday too. The Longhorns put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 13-5 win. Considering the Longhorns have won five games by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Reagan Young and Caitlin Goodwin were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Young tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Goodwin tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. At bat, Young went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI, while Goodwin went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double. That's the most hits Young has posted since back in August.

In other batting news, Payten Jefferson was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Paige Wentworth, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Lambert hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive matches.

Lambert's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-8. As for Forsyth Central, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-13-1.

Lambert and Forsyth Central could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings. The Longhorns (ranked 105th) will meet Wesleyan (ranked fourth) at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Forsyth Central will take on North Forsyth at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (282 vs. 34).
