The Ventura Cougars lost to the Westlake Warriors back in December of 2022, but the Ventura Cougars didn't allow the Westlake Warriors the same satisfaction on Thursday. Ventura enjoyed a cozy 67-52 victory over Westlake.
Kailee Staniland continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 13 assists. The matchup was her fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Skyler Knight, who scored 13 points along with 6 rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Westlake had strong showings from Devin Feiereisen, who scored 9 points along with 5 assists and 3 steals, and Mathis Dritz, who scored 20 points along with 9 rebounds. Dritz scored a full 38.5% of Westlake's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Taylor Swanson was another key contributor, scoring 7 points along with 5 rebounds and 5 blocks.
Ventura's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Westlake, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.
Ventura's road trip will continue as they head out to face Westlake. As for Westlake, they will face off against Ventura at TBD on Friday. Hopefully Ventura focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Thursday.
