The Chula Vista Spartans will be taking part in a tournament against the San Diego Cavers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
San Diego will be up against a hot Chula Vista team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Everything went Chula Vista's way against Kearny on Thursday as Chula Vista made off with a 14-3 win.

Pablo Alvarado was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Chula Vista: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one hit, but 1-3-1 otherwise. Alvarado was even better at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jose De La Cruz, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Brandon Lucero was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.
Chula Vista kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask San Diego). They put the hurt on Rich Township with a sharp 14-6 victory on Friday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Cavers considering their one-run performance the contest before.
George Carabet tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off only one hit.
At the plate, Aidan Hochman was incredible, going 4-for-5 with three runs, three doubles, and four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Harris, who scored three runs while going 2-for-5.
Chula Vista now has a winning record of 4-3-1. As for San Diego, their win ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-6.
Everything went Chula Vista's way against San Diego when the teams last played back in March of 2023, as Chula Vista made off with a 9-1 victory. Does Chula Vista have another victory up their sleeve, or will San Diego turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
