The Chester Volcanoes will head out on the road to face off against the Burney Raiders at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 59-32, which was the final score in Chester's tilt against Quincy on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Chester can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 759th, while Quincy is ranked 376th).
Meanwhile, Burney's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They were the victim of a tough 52-28 loss at the hands of Portola.
Despite the defeat, Burney saw an underclassman step up: Natalia Maldonado scored 14 points along with seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Maldonado has scored all season.
Chester has not been sharp recently as the team's lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season. As for Burney, their loss dropped their record down to 4-11.
Chester strolled past Burney when the teams last played back in January by a score of 50-32. The rematch might be a little tougher for Chester since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
