Vintage has gone 8-2 against Justin-Siena recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Crushers will be playing at home against the Braves at 4:00 p.m. Vintage is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.
Vintage is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Sonoma Valley just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Dragons. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Crushers couldn't push the score so high this time.
Soren DeYoung was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 4.1 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Vintage saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Blake Porter, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, while Justin-Siena put up plenty of runs on Saturday, the same can't be said for Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory. The Braves put the hurt on the Fightin' Irish with a sharp 12-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Braves, who have now won eight matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Connor Zuehlsdorff looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February.
On the hitting side, Tommy Malloy and Jake Fletcher did most of the damage at the plate: Malloy scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3, while Fletcher went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. That's the most stolen bases Malloy has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Drew Sangiacomo, who scored three runs while going 2-for-2.
Justin-Siena was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .524. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Justin-Siena pushed their record up to 12-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.4 runs on average over those games. As for Vintage, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-6.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Vintage hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. However, it's not like Justin-Siena struggles in that department as they've averaged .333. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Vintage was able to grind out a solid victory over Justin-Siena when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 5-0. Do the Crushers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Braves turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
