Centennial extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 11-11-1. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 11-9 heartbreaker at the hands of the Liberty Patriots. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Golden Hawks have suffered against the Patriots since April 23, 2024.
Alex Hughes was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two doubles. Adiel Perez also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.
As for Liberty, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games.
On Liberty's side, Brogan Witcher was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Witcher has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one run and one double.
In other pitching news, Jimmy Cronjager got the start for Liberty and what a start it was: he pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
Back at the plate, Gavin Williams was incredible, firing off three home runs, four runs, and five RBI while going 3-for-4. Jason Guevara was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.
