Union Pines lost against Pinecrest in their previous head to head back in February of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 69-33 score last time.
Despite the loss, Union Pines still got an impressive performance from Trent Hilburn, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Jaylen Kyle, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Pinecrest's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Azir Gillespie, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gillespie has scored all season. Elijah Melton was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds.
Union Pines has not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season. As for Pinecrest, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Union Pines will play host again and welcome Lee County, where tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Lee County is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Pinecrest, they will be playing at home against Richmond at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
