The West Shamokin Wolves will head out on the road to face off against the Portage Mustangs at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. West Shamokin will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings (they are ranked 462nd, while Portage is ranked 21st).
West Shamokin suffered their biggest defeat yet this season last Friday. They were outmatched by Penns Manor at home and fell 58-28.
Meanwhile, Portage unfortunately witnessed the end of their 14-game winning streak on Thursday. The game between Portage and River Valley wasn't particularly close, with Portage falling 59-43. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Portage has scored all season.
Despite the defeat, Portage got a solid performance out of Jenna Burkett, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Burkett hasn't dropped below 15points for eight straight games. Alex Chobany was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds.
West Shamokin bumped their record down to 2-8 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Portage, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-1.
West Shamokin was taken down by Portage 70-32 in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point West Shamokin was down 50-12.
