The New Hanover Wildcats will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the New Bern Bears at 7:00 p.m. on November 10th. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but New Hanover had no problem doing just that on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 23-6 win over Hillside. The victory was just what New Hanover needed coming off of a 44-7 defeat in their prior game.
Mason Shand and Caleb Robles were among the main playmakers for New Hanover as the former rushed for 73 yards and two touchdowns and the latter rushed for 93 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries. Robles was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 50 yards.
Meanwhile, New Bern entered their tilt with Apex with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. New Bern took down Apex 51-35 on Friday. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
New Bern got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Emmanuel Johnson out in front who threw for 347 yards and four touchdowns while completing 81% of his passes. New Bern also got a significant boost from Karvin Magwood, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 145 yards.
New Hanover now has a winning record of 6-5. As for New Bern, they have yet to lose a matchup at home this season, leaving them with a 5-6 record.
New Hanover was taken down by New Bern 40-3 when the teams last played back in August of 2022. Can New Hanover avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
