The Dougherty Valley Wildcats lost against the Monte Vista Mustangs back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Dougherty Valley took a 61-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of Monte Vista. While losing is never fun, Dougherty Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 623rd, while Monte Vista is ranked 146th).
Monte Vista was led to victory by Alyssa Rudd and Rachel Brans. Rudd dropped a double-double on 26 points and 11 rebounds, while Brans scored 24 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Rudd is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Naliyah Sefidi was another key contributor, scoring four points along with five rebounds.
Dougherty Valley dropped their record down to 4-15 with that loss, which was their 12th straight on the road. As for Monte Vista, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-8.
Dougherty Valley will head out on the road to square off against California at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully California focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 last Tuesday. Monte Vista won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Amador Valley at 7:00 p.m. on January 26th.
