It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Lowell had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Mission Bears with a sharp 10-0 win. The Cardinals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 matchups by six runs or more this season.
Angelo Ornelas-Rafael made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Reggie Fong, who went 2-for-3 with three runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. Elijah Gittelman also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Lowell always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mission only posted an OBP of .136.
Lowell's victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-8. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Mission, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-21 record this season.
Lowell wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 4-1 defeat against Lincoln on the 14th. Mission does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
