The Douglas County West Falcon will face off against the Yutan-Mead Patriots at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Douglas County West will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.
While Douglas County West's win against Arlington wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Falcon sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over the Eagles on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Falcon have posted since September 11th.
Lillee Zach spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 13 Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Bella Zach, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Douglas County West kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Yutan-Mead came up short against Ralston on Tuesday and fell 7-2. The Patriots have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Leah Thompson made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. That home run was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Bailey Bartunek, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Yutan-Mead's defeat dropped their record down to 17-6. As for Douglas County West, their victory bumped their record up to 19-8.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Douglas County West hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Yutan-Mead struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Douglas County West might still be hurting after the 15-3 loss they got from Yutan-Mead in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Can the Falcon avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
