The teams in the top 100 all have excellent pedigree, a tradition of success and big-time players fueling expectations of jumping into the MaxPreps Top 25 as the season progresses. Some are returning state champions while others are contenders to bring home a title in 2025-26.
California (11) and Texas (10) lead the way with a combined 21 teams on the list while Florida and Georgia have seven apiece.
In total, 30 different states along with the District of Columbia are represented. Twenty-three of those states had multiple teams selected. Arizona, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, North Carolina and Pennsylvania each have four teams highlighted.
The expanded top 100 is limited to schools that compete for a state championship sanctioned by a NFHS-recognized governing body. Post-graduate or non-scholastic programs are not eligible for inclusion.
Although Notre Dame appeared at No. 2 in our Preseason MaxPreps Top 25 released Tuesday, the
withdrawal of Tyran Stokes from the school yesterday has shifted expectations a bit for the Knights. While the SoCal powerhouse remains in the national rankings, they drop to the No. 23 spot with each team ranked behind them shifting up one spot.
Read on for a breakdown of the top 100 teams from coast-to-coast. Click on school names for in-depth previews of each MaxPreps Top 25 team.
