Baseball Game Preview: Exeter Monarchs vs. Hanford West Huskies

Exeter is 9-1 against Hanford West since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. Exeter will venture away from home to square off against Hanford West at 4:00 p.m. Exeter will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.

Last Saturday, Exeter got the win against Woodlake by a conclusive 10-2. The result was nothing new for the Monarchs, who have now won ten games by six runs or more so far this season.

Exeter let Tanner Garnett and Gilbert Ortiz run wild. Garnett scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Ortiz scored a run while going 2-for-4. Garnett is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jacob Molina, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

While Hanford West didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-20), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They won by a run and slipped past Dos Palos 2-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Huskies.

Sam Sandoval was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and one run. That triple was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of King Mitre, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Exeter's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.8 runs over those games. As for Hanford West, their win bumped their record up to 7-4.

Exeter beat Hanford West 4-1 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Exeter since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
