Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only South Loup walked away with it. They managed a 28-22 victory over Central Valley on Friday. The win was just business as usual for South Loup, who after 11 games remain undefeated this season.
It was another big night for Trey Connell, who rushed for 152 yards and three touchdowns. Connell hasn't dropped below two rushing touchdowns for eight straight games. Another player making a difference was Conner Paulsen, who rushed for 74 yards and a touchdown on only six carries.
When it comes to explaining why Central Valley lost, one person who can't be blamed is Grady Kelley. Despite the final result, he rushed for 129 yards and two touchdowns. Kelley is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last five games he's played.
South Loup's win was their ninth straight at home (dating back to last season), which pushed their record up to 11-0. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 36.11 points. As for Central Valley, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 10-1.
South Loup will face off against Sandhills/Thedford at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Sandhills/Thedford has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 608 points over their last 11 matches. Central Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
