It was a good run, but the Monessen Greyhounds unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Saturday. They suffered a tough 50-25 defeat at the hands of Riverview. Monessen was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Raiders apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2022.
Despite the loss, Monessen still got an impressive performance from MyAsia Majors, who scored four points along with 12 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Monessen smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 28 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Riverview only pulled down 11 offensive rebounds.
Riverview's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Isabel Chaparro, who scored 15 points. Katerina Tsambis was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Monessen's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-4. As for Riverview, they pushed their record up to 14-5 with that victory, which was their eighth straight at home.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monessen will take on the Maples at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Mapletown will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings (they are ranked 666th, while the Greyhounds are ranked 318th). As for Riverview, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Spartans at 7:30 p.m.
