The Montour Spartans had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 69-48 margin over Mars. Given Montour's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 14th, while Mars is ranked 101st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Montour to victory were Ama tening Sow and Jake Wolfe. Sow dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds, while Wolfe scored 21 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Brandon Bieranowski, who scored nine points.
Despite the loss, Mars still got an impressive performance from Ryan Ceh, who scored 21 points along with seven rebounds. Ceh hasn't dropped below 15points for 14 straight games. Austen Wroblewski was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Montour's win was their 11th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.8 points per game. As for Mars, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Montour will challenge West Mifflin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. West Mifflin has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Mars, they will head out on the road to challenge North Hills at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
