There's no place like home for the Santa Ynez Pirates, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Saturday. They blew past Nordhoff, posting a 63-17 victory at home. Given Santa Ynez's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 208th, while Nordhoff is ranked 500th), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Santa Ynez was led to victory by Jay Bradford and Kylie LaPointe. Bradford scored 10 points along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals, while LaPointe scored 16 points along with 3 steals. LaPointe hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Kayla Morrell, who scored 11 points along with 5 rebounds.
Santa Ynez's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Nordhoff, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-4.
Santa Ynez will square off against Dos Pueblos at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Dos Pueblos knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three contests -- so hopefully Santa Ynez likes a good challenge. As for Nordhoff, they will head out on the road to face off against Cate at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
