After both having extra time off, the Coleville Wolves and the Excel Christian Warriors will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Coleville has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with seven straight losses, while Excel Christian will come in with six straight victories.
Things were looking good for Coleville after they put the first runs on the board two weeks ago, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They came up short against Virginia City, falling 14-4. That's two games in a row now that the Wolves have lost by exactly ten runs.
JAY SWAN put in work no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits. What's more, he gave up only three walks, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing four bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those stolen bases were his first of the season.

In other batting news, GAVIN PALADINO made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Watson, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Excel Christian never let their opponents score two weeks ago. They put the hurt on Carlin with a sharp 19-0 win. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by ten runs or more this season.
Like Coleville, Excel Christian also got a great game from a two-way player: Tommy Schoech. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Schoech was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Grayson King was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sam Mori, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Excel Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Carlin only posted a batting average of .000.
Excel Christian's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-1-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Coleville, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Coleville has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Excel Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Coleville might still be hurting after the 20-4 loss they got from Excel Christian when the teams last played back in March. Will the Wolves have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
