Windsor Academy and Gatewood are an even 5-5 against one another since October of 2020, but likely not for long. The Knights will welcome the Gators at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Windsor Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
Windsor Academy is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Fullington Academy just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Monday. They took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Trojans. Knights fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Trojans since Monday.
Madelyn 'Maddie' Price made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played.
Meanwhile, Gatewood came tearing into Monday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Jaguars with a sharp 9-1 win. The Gators might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.
Riley Roberts made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.
In other batting news, Lily Arthur and Ellie McMillian did most of the damage at the plate: Arthur went 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while McMillian went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Colbie Stolley also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Windsor Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Gatewood, their victory bumped their record up to 10-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Windsor Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Gatewood struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Windsor Academy suffered a grim 13-4 defeat to Gatewood in their previous meeting back in August. Will the Knights have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
