Basketball Recap: Baker Falls Despite Big Games from AJ Chilton and Cole Hardin

It was fun while it lasted, but Baker's undefeated season came to an end after four games on Friday. They fell just short of the Freeport Bulldogs by a score of 69-67. The Gators lost against the Bulldogs in their previous head to head back in February of 2021, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 53-20 score last time.

Baker's loss came despite strong showings from Cole Hardin and AJ Chilton. Hardin went 6 of 13 en route to 17 points, while Chilton posted 14 points. Another player making a difference was Terrance Clausell, who put up nine points.

Leading Freeport to victory were Dameyan Martin and Julius Miles. Martin dropped a double-double on 28 points and ten rebounds, while Miles dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Miles has scored at least a third of Freeport's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Taylor, who had six points.

Having lost for the first time this season, Baker fell to 4-1. As for Freeport, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-2.

Baker didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 56-45 win against Central on the 10th. As for Freeport, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 57-46 defeat against Walton on the 10th.
