The Canutillo Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Chapin Huskies at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
Last Thursday, Canutillo was fully in charge, breezing past Andress 58-7 at home. Given Canutillo's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 418th, while Andress is ranked 868th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Canutillo to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jeremiah Knox, who threw for 119 yards and three touchdowns on only seven passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Mathew Gasca also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Chapin humbled Burges with a 42-7 victory. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Chapin had established a 22 point advantage.
Chapin's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Daveon Singleton, who rushed for 56 yards and a touchdown, and also picked up 72 receiving yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Carey Wade, who rushed for 154 yards and a touchdown while picking up 9.1 yards per carry.
Their wins lifted both teams to an identical 5-2.
Canutillo took their victory against Chapin in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 by a conclusive 26-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Canutillo since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
