The Pacific Grove Breakers will venture away from home to take on the Stevenson Pirates at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
North Monterey County hit Pacific Grove with a four-run sixth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Breakers took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Condors. The Breakers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Grady Burczynski was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of North Kirk, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Stevenson made easy work of Everett Alvarez on Thursday and carried off a 9-2 win. Considering the Pirates have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Phinn Thomas made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs.
In other batting news, Alex Wang and Luke Potter did most of the damage at the plate: Wang got on base in all four of his plate appearances with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Potter got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Potter a new career-high. Jacob Hall was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Stevenson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Everett Alvarez only posted an OBP of .424.
Stevenson is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Pacific Grove, their loss dropped their record down to 14-11-1.
