Sahuaro is 1-9 against Salpointe Catholic since February of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Sahuaro Cougars will venture away from home to face off against the Salpointe Catholic Lancers at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
If Salpointe Catholic heads into halftime all tied up, they better play a good second half: that's when Sahuaro took over last week. Sahuaro managed a 41-35 victory over Ironwood Ridge on Tuesday.

Sahuaro's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Maggie Boyd, who went 6 for 11 en route to 13 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. Those 13 points gave Boyd a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Anissa Garcia, who went 5 of 12 on her way to 10 points and six boards.
Sahuaro smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Salpointe Catholic had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30.5 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Monday. They breezed by the Red Wolves to the tune of 55-25. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 34-10.
Sahuaro better keep an eye on Sidney Anderson. She was instrumental in Salpointe Catholic's win, going 9 for 16 en route to 21 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayci Nelson, who posted eight points and four steals.
Sahuaro has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.9 points per game. As for Salpointe Catholic, their win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-4.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Sahuaro has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28.5 boards per game. However, it's not like Salpointe Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.1 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Sahuaro ended up a good deal behind Salpointe Catholic when the teams last played back in January of 2024, losing 68-49. Can Sahuaro avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
