In what's become a running theme this season, the Omaha Central Eagles gave their fans yet another huge victory on Saturday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Gretna East 67-33 on the road. Given Omaha Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked eighth, while the Griffins are ranked 176th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Omaha Central to victory, but perhaps none more so than Daleron Thomas, who scored 19 points. Another player making a difference was D.j. Sterling, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Despite the loss, Gretna East saw an underclassman step up: Drayke Brown scored 11 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Brown has scored all season.
Gretna East struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Omaha Central pulled down ten offensive rebounds.
Omaha Central pushed their record up to 12-3 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.3 points per game. As for Gretna East, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.
Omaha Central will be playing in front of their home fans against the SkyHawks at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Skutt Catholic knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully the Eagles likes a good challenge. As for Gretna East, they will head out on the road to take on the Discoverers at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Columbus focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Saturday.
