Even though the Fairfax Lions scored an imposing 55 points on Saturday, the Bernstein Dragons still came out on top. Bernstein rang in the new year with a 67-55 win over Fairfax. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Bernstein.
Odali Rivera continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 45 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Stephanie Ferreira was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Despite the loss, Fairfax still got an impressive performance from Alyssa McKenzie, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 32 rebounds. McKenzie is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Desiree Gage, who scored six points along with six steals and five assists.
Even though they lost, Fairfax were working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Bernstein has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. As for Fairfax, their loss dropped their record down to 6-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bernstein will take on Dorsey at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Dorsey comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Fairfax, Fairfax and Venice will face off at 3:00 p.m. on January 8th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Venice is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
