Cate had lost five straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 0-9 to make it six. They fell 8-5 to the Nordhoff Rangers. If the Rams were looking for revenge after losing 8-7 to the Rangers when the teams met back in February of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Henry Helson was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.
In other batting news, Noah Casbarro made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
As for Nordhoff, the victory got them back to even at 10-10. The win was nothing new for the Rangers as they're now sitting on four straight.
Like Cate, Nordhoff also got a great game from a two-way player: Scotty Luttenberger. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Luttenberger also tossed no walks, which is notable because Nordhoff is 5-2 when he allows at most one walk, but 5-8 otherwise. Luttenberger was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one run and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.
In other pitching news, Dylan Miller looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Nordhoff: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 8-9 otherwise.
Back at the plate, Jaxson Middough was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob De Alba, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cate will welcome St. Monica Academy at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Nordhoff, they will be playing in front of their home fans against St. Bonaventure at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Rangers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Seraphs have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season.
