The Grossmont Foothillers will be playing at home against the Mt. Carmel Sundevils at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Grossmont's favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while Mt. Carmel has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
Grossmont stacked a 12th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They breezed by Granite Hills at home to the tune of 56-23. 56 seems to be a good number for Grossmont as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Amethyst Price continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Aakash Price was another key contributor, scoring four points along with nine rebounds and seven steals.
Meanwhile, Mt. Carmel struggled with three-point shooting accuracy on Friday (Valley Center was 20% better) and sadly the final score reflected it. Mt. Carmel fell 53-44 to Valley Center.
Despite their loss, Mt. Carmel saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Grace Weede, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Kiyanna Ellis, who scored five points along with seven rebounds.
Grossmont is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season. As for Mt. Carmel, they have not been sharp recently as the team has lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-20 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Grossmont have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 24.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Mt. Carmel struggles in that department as they've been averaging 40.7 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Grossmont against Mt. Carmel in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 77-29 win. Will Grossmont repeat their success, or does Mt. Carmel have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
