The Wheatland Pirates will head out on the road to face off against the Lincoln Fighting Zebras at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wheatland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
On Friday, Wheatland and Bear River finished up their game with a 5-5 draw.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last matchup, Lincoln made sure to put some runs up on the board against Valley Christian on Saturday. The Fighting Zebras blew past the Lions 12-2. The Fighting Zebras might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by seven runs or more this season.
Anthony Jackson looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Landyn Plaut was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jackson Cook, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double.
Lincoln was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .469. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Valley Christian only posted a batting average of .167.
Lincoln is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. Wheatland's tie makes their record 14-7-1 this season.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Wheatland hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .320. However, it's not like Lincoln struggles in that department as they've averaged .329. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Wheatland couldn't quite finish off Lincoln when the teams last played back in April of 2021 and fell 5-3. Can the Pirates avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
