Crisp County is a perfect 10-0 against Dougherty since October of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Cougars will venture away from home to challenge the Trojans at 5:30 p.m. The last three games Crisp County has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Monday, it was close, but Crisp County sidestepped Worth County for a 14-12 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cougars have posted against the Rams since September 13, 2018.
Dougherty never got on the board in their matchup on Thursday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Mitchell County on Monday. They put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 22-1 victory. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Trojans' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Jalexi Thomas made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Thomas was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and three runs. That home run was her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jazlyn Turner, who fired off two home runs, six RBI, and four runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in September. Dariona Simmons was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI.
Dougherty lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Crisp County is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-12 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Dougherty, their record now sits at 8-17.
Everything went Crisp County's way against Dougherty in their previous matchup back in August of 2023, as Crisp County made off with an 11-0 victory. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Trojans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
