The Redwood Giants will take on the Heritage Patriots in a tournament on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Redwood comes in on three and Heritage on six.
Last Friday, Redwood got the win against Marin Catholic by a conclusive 9-2. The result was nothing new for the Giants, who have now won four games by six runs or more so far this season.
Matthew Knauer looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Theo Trono was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He has become a key player for Redwood: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-5-1 otherwise. Miles Harrison was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Redwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, Heritage got themselves on the board against Deer Valley on Tuesday, but Deer Valley never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Wolverines with a sharp 23-0 win. That looming 23-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Patriots yet this season.
JZ McArthur was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. McArthur was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Heritage let Cooper Melissare and Aidan Rangel run wild. Melissare scored three runs while going 2-for-2, while Rangel went 1-for-2 with four RBI and two runs. Those four RBI gave Rangel a new career-high. Peyton Donleavy also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Redwood's record is now 7-5-1. As for Heritage, their record now sits at 10-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Redwood has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Heritage struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Redwood was able to grind out a solid victory over Heritage in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 4-1. Do the Giants have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Patriots turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
