Cathedral City hasn't had much luck against Xavier Prep recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Lions will take on the Saints in a tournament on Wednesday. Cathedral City will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
Cathedral City gave up the first runs last Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 12-7 victory over Desert Hot Springs. The game was the first time the Lions have beaten the Golden Eagles on their field since March 22, 2022.

Moses Tinajero made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off nine hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Ozzy Garcia was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.
Meanwhile, Xavier Prep fell victim to Palm Desert and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Aztecs by a score of 2-0. The Saints have struggled against the Aztecs recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.
Cathedral City's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-13. As for Xavier Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 11-15.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Cathedral City has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Xavier Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Cathedral City suffered a grim 14-0 defeat to Xavier Prep in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Can the Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
