The Hazleton Area Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight contests by 23 points or more this season. They blew past Pittston 65-33 on the road. Winning may never get old, but Hazleton Area sure is getting used to it with their eighth in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hazleton Area to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sophia Shults, who scored ten points along with nine blocks and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Benyo, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Hazleton Area pushed their record up to 10-1 with that victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.0 points per game. As for Pittston, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hazleton Area will take on Crestwood at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Crestwood will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings (they are ranked 309th, while Hazleton Area is ranked 12th). As for Pittston, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Dallas at 7:15 p.m.
