After flying high against Hillel Academy last Thursday, the Jeannette Jayhawks came back down to earth. Jeannette took a 32-27 hit to the loss column at the hands of Leechburg. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Jeannette in their matchups with Leechburg: they've now lost three in a row.
Venicia Vignoli and Adriana Allison certainly did their best on Monday to try and avoid the loss. Vignoli scored 11 points along with six rebounds and six steals, while Allison scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Vignoli is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Mary Jones was another key contributor, scoring two points along with 11 rebounds.
Jeannette's defeat was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 6-6. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.3 points per game. As for Leechburg, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
Jeannette will be playing in front of their home fans against Frazier at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Allie Yauch and Allison. As for Leechburg, they will head out on the road to square off against Burrell at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Burrell presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Leechburg in Pennsylvania (Burrell is ranked 237th, while Leechburg is ranked 535th).
