Baseball Recap: Scotts Valley Wins Going Away Against San Lorenzo Valley

After only one run in their last matchup, Scotts Valley made sure to put some runs up on the board against San Lorenzo Valley on Tuesday. The Falcons put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 12-1 victory. The Falcons have beaten the Cougars the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Cougars has come to flipping the script.

Lukas Bloom and Nick Acton made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Bloom didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Acton tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Bloom also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Scotts Valley is 6-3 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-11 otherwise. At bat, Bloom went 3-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double, while Acton went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. That's the most RBI Bloom has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Clayton Pryor was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Scotts Valley's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 8-13 when he doesn't). Owen Martin was another key player, earning one RBI and three runs.

Scotts Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as San Lorenzo Valley only posted an OBP of .222.

Scotts Valley's win bumped their record up to 11-14. As for San Lorenzo Valley, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 12 of their last 13 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-22 record this season.

Scotts Valley will have a chance to go back-to-back against San Lorenzo Valley: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
