The Tyrone Golden Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fourth straight defeat. They took a 54-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of Clearfield. While losing is never fun, Tyrone can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 467th, while Clearfield is ranked 226th).
Clearfield found their leader in underclassman Mia Helsel, who scored 27 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Helsel has scored all season. Sonny Diehl was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Tyrone has been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 13 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season. As for Clearfield, their victory bumped their record up to 13-8.
Tyrone does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Clearfield, they will head out on the road to face off against Curwensville at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Clearfield is facing Curwensville at the right time seeing as Curwensville is stuck on a 18-game losing streak.
