Tyce Tenney was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bill Duchi, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Connor Modesitt was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, McKinleyville got themselves on the board against Arcata on Saturday, but Arcata never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 10-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.
The result came thanks to Hunter Carper's shutout, as he gave up just two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Bryce Sargent was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Pat Wison, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
McKinleyville is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Foothill, their win bumped their record up to 9-11.
Foothill came out on top in a nail-biter against McKinleyville in their previous matchup two weeks ago, sneaking past 5-4. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
