The Hackensack Comets will face off against the Wood-Ridge Blue Devils at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Hackensack has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with three straight losses, while Wood-Ridge will come in with four straight victories.
Ramapo hit Hackensack with a seven-run fifth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Comets came up short against the Raiders, falling 11-1.
Meanwhile, Wood-Ridge got the win against Cresskill on Thursday by a conclusive 12-2. Considering the Blue Devils have won three contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Jack Caprio was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Devin Gravina looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
Back at the plate, Nick Scalera was a standout: he went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Lucas Mendoza was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Wood-Ridge kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive games.
Wood-Ridge pushed their record up to 5-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Hackensack, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.
Hackensack took their win against Wood-Ridge in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 13-0 score. Will the Comets repeat their success, or do the Blue Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
