Apple Valley has gone a perfect 10-0 against Burroughs recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Sun Devils will be playing in front of their home fans against the Burros at 3:15 p.m. Apple Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.
Apple Valley couldn't beat Hesperia on Friday even though they stacked four runs on them in the third inning. The Sun Devils fell just short of the Scorpions by a score of 5-4. The loss continues a trend for the Sun Devils in their meetings with the Scorpions: they've now lost three in a row.
Jaden Padilla was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Homer-Wayde Munson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Burroughs). They put the hurt on Oak Hills with a sharp 21-7 win on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Burros, who have now won 11 contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Colby Bachman and Kanon Schiller did most of the damage at the plate: Bachman went 3-for-4 with six RBI, three runs, and one triple, while Schiller got on base in five of his six plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and one stolen base. Those six RBI gave Bachman a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Haas, who went 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBI.
Burroughs kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 21 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
The victory (which was Burroughs' third in a row) raised their record to 16-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Apple Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-9.
Both Apple Valley and Burroughs just can't seem to miss. The Sun Devils have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Burroughs struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.1 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Apple Valley skirted past Burroughs 3-2 in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Sun Devils repeat their success, or do the Burros have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
