The Needles Mustangs had to hit the road for their first game and sadly it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They took a 52-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of Moapa Valley. Needles lost against Moapa Valley in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 50-28 score last time.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Moapa Valley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Savanna Burt, who scored 14 points along with 5 assists and 5 rebounds. Burt is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Claire Cox was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with 9 rebounds and 3 steals.
Needles' loss dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Moapa Valley, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.
Needles will face off against Pahrump Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Pahrump Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Friday. As for Moapa Valley, they will be playing at home against Dixie at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
