After a string of four wins, the El Camino Eagles's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They took a serious blow against Vista del Lago, falling 62-16. While losing is never fun, El Camino can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 589th, while Vista del Lago is ranked 106th).
Despite the defeat, El Camino had strong showings from Calista Wold, who scored 12 points along with two steals, and Noelle Potratz, who scored four points along with nine rebounds and two blocks. Potratz is crushing the block category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, El Camino struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Vista del Lago pulled down 12 offensive rebounds.
Ella Skrzyniarz was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds for Vista del Lago. Skrzyniarz has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last 16 times she's played. Emma Lyons was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
El Camino's defeat dropped their record down to 14-12. As for Vista del Lago, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a massive bump to their 16-8 record this season.
El Camino will head out on the road to challenge Christian Brothers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Christian Brothers is coming into the match with six straight victories at home, so El Camino is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum. Vista del Lago will take on Rio Americano at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Vista del Lago knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four contests -- so hopefully Rio Americano likes a good challenge.
